Jefferson City Car Accident Injures Three

A car accident in Jefferson City sent three people to the hospital early Monday morning. The accident happened on Tanner Boulevard when two cars going opposite directions hit one another.

The

southbound vehicle crossed the center line, skidding into the passenger side of a northbound car. His vehicle then was pushed into another vehicle parked on the road.

The driver in the first vehicle was not hurt. The driver and two passengers in the other vehicle were all hurt and taken to Capital Region Medical Center. Their condition is unknown. The driver of the second vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The police are still investigating the accident. It is unknown what caused the accident.

Jefferson County Man Killed in Car Accident

A man driving south on U.S. 11 was killed after he hit a utility pole. The victim was 24-years-old. The accident was in Pikeside, West Virginia around 2 a.m.

A woman who was riding with Jackson in the 1992 Dodge Caravan left the scene and was found at a house, Kearns said. The passenger is not being identified because her age and address were not available Sunday.
The woman was hurt, but her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Kearns said.
Kearns said the woman gave a statement to police in which she said she did not recall the crash. The woman struck her head on part of the car during the crash, Kearns said.

Police are still investigating the accident. They believe that alcohol was responsible for the accident. If you have any information, please contact the Police.

Missouri Police May Reduce Fatal Car Chases with New Device

Police car chases can sometimes end in fatal car accidents for innocent bystanders. The Missouri State Legislator is considering two bills that may help reduce the number of fatal accidents. The StarChase Device will allow a police officer to tag a car and track it from a safe distance.

Rep. Jeff Roorda, a 17-year veteran of the Kimmswick and Arnold police departments, is sponsoring two separate bills that would allow police departments in St. Louis and Kansas City to apply for state grants to buy the device. The legislation would cover up to half the cost of the device.
Those bills are awaiting public committee hearings. A similar bill filed late in the legislative session last year failed to move beyond committee.

The device is being tested in Florida and California. People that are critical of the device say that it is expensive and has not undergone enough testing. 32 innocent people were killed in car chases in the state of Missouri from 2000 to 2005.

Bus Accident Caused by Negligent Driving

Bus driver Ellen Daak was citied for negligence nearly a week after the bus she was driving veered into a roadside ditch while Daak was reading a map.

Daak was transporting 44 passengers - 39 nine-year-old YMCA campers - to a field trip at a state park. She and 16 campers were injured in the accident and taken to the hospital. Daak also drives a school bus in Jefferson City during the school year.

According to court records, Daak's driving record includes a 2003 traffic ticket for driving 16 to 19 mph over the speed limit in Jefferson City.
After last week's accident, the remaining campers and staff got on a bus provided by the Columbia Fire Department and went to University Hospital, where their parents picked them up.
